Novel Update/Other Projects

I’m still editing. I really thought that I’d get more done before the beginning of August but because I work two jobs I’ve fallen behind on all of my projects. Yesterday I finally had the opportunity to get out of the house for a couple of hours. I did so as well today. I bought a CD, hung out with my folks and used my Chapters gift card. Scored myself two books. I try to read before I fall asleep at night. Helps me to clear my head.

Anyway, despite falling behind in my editing I’m still pleased with the progress I’ve made. Ness is doing final touches on the illustrations for my book, which she has so kindly offered to do. Hopefully it’ll be ready before the end of the month. Depending on how my editing goes with my novel, I’m expecting that book to be on the market sooner.

I’ve decided to spend a portion of my afternoon editing. I want to do a couple of chapters at least. It’s not hard to type it up but I find that there are days when I don’t want to turn my computer on at all. I’ve had a fairly stressful year and thankfully my fulltime job is fantastic because the part-time one was really starting to add to the amount of stress I’d been feeling. Writing helps me deal with my stress. Occasionally my mood has an effect on the story. It was more common in my earlier works.

Well, I’d better get started. I’d really like to get as much done as I possibly can before dinners ready. I have to prepare some other things for my full-time job as well.

Till next time,

Book 12 is Mine!

Yesterday I finally got book 12! After a two year wait…the book is mine.

I also bought my nieces birthday presents. I got her a bunch of books, since she’s in kindergarten and she’s learning to read.

My sister-in-law asked me to do so last time I saw her, since my niece has many, many, many toys.

I’m actually very excited about reading some of the books with her, because I got books that I used to adore as a kid. They made me laugh and the illustrations were fantastic.

I even reread all of them before buying them, just to make sure they were still funny. They were.

I’m so happy I spent the day at Chapters. I mean…now I’m a little behind on my reading for class tomorrow but I was really stressed out with my assignments and needed a break.

Actually I took a break from Saturday to Monday. However it was worth it, I did a lot of new things. Got to know the city better and I met some cool people.

However, I really need to earn some money. Maybe I’ll have a book sale? Sell some books so I can buy some books. I really like books.

I also bought myself a journal because I’d like to get back into telling my own personal story. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll open up one of my old journals from when I was twelve and use it to help my kids, or even the kids I’m going to be teaching through what they’re experiencing. Journaling and blogging are seriously great therapy for me. So is song writing…but yah. It really helps me clear my head.

I’m so glad I have this book now.

Thanks for ordering it for me dad.

Book 12…You’re Almost Mine!

I’ve been searching all of my usual book stores for this book and online and haven’t been able to find it! Been looking for two years…and its apart of a series that I own and I basically own all the books but one.

See two years earlier I was visiting my grandparents and they always take me to Coles or Chapters depending on if we go to the mall or straight to the book store…so I bought two books from the series and before buying them she said, “Are you sure you have book 12, because I’m pretty sure that you don’t.”

And I said, “I think I have it.” and naively purchased 13 and 14.

So when I returned home I was shocked to find that I didn’t have book 12 and therefore couldn’t read book’s 13 and 14. FOR TWO YEARS!

freakingout

…can you sense my frustration? I looked…everywhere.

Finally, during my reading break my parents were like “I think you can just ask Chapter’s to order the book for you.” so I was like, “Oh now you tell me.”

Sadly I didn’t order the book while I was home. My dad drove me back and after we grabbed lunch he decided to bring me to Chapters and said, “You need to order than book right?”

So then I was all ready to buy my book and then my dad buys it for me! I was like, “Eh? Wha? My money righ’ here man? What you doin’?”

But he bought it.

AND I GOT THE EMAIL SAYING IT’S IN THE STORE!

Thanks Dad. That really means a lot.

Writing Update: Online Series Coming Soon!

I’m very happy to announce that after a little more editing I will be posting my first online series. Since it originally started off as a short story for a competition I entered a few years ago, rewriting it was a bit difficult and I’m still trying to work out exactly what direction I want this story to take. However, I’m having a lot of fun working on it!

Stay tuned!

Happy Anniversary! To this blog…

Wow my blog is officially 2 years old…that is so cool. It’s grown a lot since I started (though lately because of work I haven’t been posting as often).

I promise that I will be posting some of my work very soon. I don’t have a set date right now only because of work. That just wouldn’t be fair to any of you…plus it would stress me out.

My novel is also 3 years old. I realized that the other day while writing. I date my pages. All of them. I know its a little weird but it actually helps me keep thinks organized if I date and number my pages.

My babies are growing up…it’s like I’ve been raising two kids. I’m watching them grow and develop and blossom…and all of those words mean the same thing but like…it’s just so cool.

From one word to nearly 20 chapters. From one follower to almost 500. I can’t even put into words how good it feels to…have your hard work pay off. It’s really wonderful.

Thank you all for your support over these last two years and I will do my best to blog at least twice a week. I’ve just been working two weeks straight so I haven’t had any time off.

It’s funny how my blogiversary is in between my mom and dads anniversary and my sisters birthday. Hmm…must’ve planned that secretly.

Stay tuned and thank you all,

R.

Goodbyes: The End of Both Writer’s Club, and High School

Over the last year, I have grown a lot as a writer. I’ve broken out of my shell and joined groups where I can spend time with other writers, doing exercises, editing, and learning about new competitions. The experience has be great, and it has helped me meet so many extraordinary people. It even helped me build a strong relationship with some of my teachers, whom of which now I trust quite a lot, and will greatly miss when I leave this small school of mine.

This week, we heard that the club would be dwindling down, as the year is coming to an end. Exams are, unfortunately much closer than we want to believe.

It’s still hard to believe that four years of my life have just zipped by. It’s as if I’d been sitting on a train in the subway waiting for my next stop. I knew it was coming, however it happened all so suddenly. Thankfully, unlike a subway train, the memories I made are not a blurred image in a window. These memories are so clear, it is as if they happened yesterday.

If only there were some way to say, “Goodbye,” without it meaning farewell.

Though I am ready to begin the next chapter in my life, saying goodbye will still feel odd. It’s as if somewhere inside of me, I think that after I walk out those doors and get on the bus for the final time, that I’ll be back again the next day….I loved my time as this little school. I have no regrets. I wouldn’t do a thing different. High school was absolutely perfect, and the memories I made during these last four years, will always be remembered in my heart as something worth cherishing.Image

I do hope that in university there will be some sort of group for writers, where I can go and meet those who have similar interests as me. I hope that I made an excellent, strong group of friends like the ones I will be finishing with. I will do my best not to crawl back into my shell, and let my presence be known. In order for these wishes of mine to become a reality, I must take small baby steps and make the first move.

While I am away, I will try and start up a list of advice to give to my younger sister, as she will need it quite soon after. It will be strange not having her storm around the house while getting ready in the morning (she isn’t a morning person). Well, I’m sure that I will get used to the changes eventually.

Till next time,

Orion.
